Our Story
National City’s commitment to the battle against breast cancer didn’t spring up overnight. It developed, instead, with a growing passion.
“Breast cancer is an issue that affects so many employees of National City and their families,” says Joanne Clark, Senior Vice President, Charitable Giving. “For a long time, we participated in various breast cancer initiatives to raise awareness and promote research and education through donations and volunteerism. Whatever we could do, we would do.”
The first Diamond Edition® credit card four years ago broadened the National City commitment. Today, the Diamond Edition program encompasses credit and debit cards, and checking, and has raised $2.5 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which distributes those funds to programs and institutions in communities where the bank operates.
Raising awareness is also critical to the battle. Each October—National Breast Cancer Awareness Month—the bank sponsors programs that support survivors and encourage screening.
“We’re part of the community,” Clark says, “and we feel it’s our responsibility to give back to that community."
