Florida Does WEDO

WEDO, the Women’s Economic Development Outreach program, is coming to Florida for its inaugural tour beginning Nov. 10. WEDO is a coalition of business experts working to provide focused resources that help women-owned and -managed businesses flourish.

“WEDO is a natural fit for Southeast Florida,” says Rena Toppe, President, Spark and Events, WEDO Florida event planner. Indeed, the Center for Women’s Business Research reported in 2006 that West Palm Beach-Boca Raton was home to 63,000 women-owned firms employing 68,000 people and generating $11 billion in sales.

“There are a number of women’s business organizations in the area, but none that impart the kind of solid, actionable information that WEDO does,” adds Toppe, who has been working since late 2007 to organize the tour’s four stops:

• Borland Center, Palm Beach Gardens, Nov. 10

• The Marriott Hotel, West Palm Beach, Nov. 12

• Binks Forest Golf Club, Wellington, Nov. 13

• Boca Raton Marriott, Boca Center, Nov. 14

Each program, which starts at 8 a.m. with a networking breakfast, features three morning seminars, including:

Rev Up Your Engine: High Octane Additives for Your Business including e-mail marketing, website enhancement and online banking.

Fuel Your Tank—Amplify Your Assets about private, federal, local and personal funding sources.

Put the Pedal to the Metal—Taking Your Business to the Next Level with strategic partnerships, client acquisition and business etiquette.

These are followed by a lunch seminar focused on the certification process for women-owned businesses. Participants can choose to attend the morning or lunchtime programs—or both.
